A designer can tell a lot from how you deal with lots of content, your use of typography and image. 
This project gives you the opportunity to practice design skills, your typography skills and work with assets (sketches and drawings) given to you. As a designer you are typically given the assets (text, images) and you need to figure out the best way to present the material.

The Sophomore Class in Industrial Design is currently working on a project designing shoes for VANS (yes they get to talk to a designer at Vans). The starts by on watching the documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys. Each ID sophomore is working on a shoe based on someone from the film or involved in making the film. The ID sophomores have research, sketches of shoes and will have a final sketch of their shoe

Your task will be to include the provided text History of Vans, any timeline information you may want to include, any historical imagery you want to include, captions, a bio of the person the shoe is based on, at least 6 initial sketches, notes ideas from the ID sophomore and the final shoe design.

*You can work as little or as much with the ID sophomore as you would like. You will be given to their contact info and access to their google drive folder and you should meet with them virtually or in person at least once to hear their thoughts and ideas about the person they chose and the shoe they are designing.

Meet your ID person (email, virtual or in person) and get access to their google folder.
Collect all the other content. Images. Bio of the featured person (can include ID student bio if you want)
Develop 3 look and feels of how you can design this... maybe 3 tool kits or style guides.

HOMEWORK
Design a full draft all the content, images, captions, bio, sketches, place holder for the final shoe design.

Come with/Design/Expore 2 different designs of the entire thing so you can pick one and refine it all next week.
2 options so you can make a wise choice on Monday.

Refining type refresher. Read and scroll through to the end.

Refine one direction. Have a second option for at least 2 spreads.
Catch, consider and refine to address all the typographic details listed above.

Save it all as a pdf (alternate spreads included) and put it here and be prepared to show it digitally in the 313 lab (sign in and get it up on the large imac so we can see it) and crit it on screen.
