A designer can tell a lot from your resumé.
It is probably the first time they hear of you and therefore an introduction to you as a person and as a professional designer. It’s your one-page portfolio. It’s the virtual you. The resume itself is definitely information which should demand my undivided attention. It needs to be designed. Your choice of typefaces and typography, the layout and the organization of information, the paper stock, etc., all contribute to the way I perceive you as a potential designer working for us. It also shows me what you can do on a single piece of paper. But high wire acts are dangerous, so keep it simple and readable. (Even David Carson's business card is ultimately readable.) No elaborate personal logos, please, especially if you're just out of school. It's a bit pretentious.

Your resumé needs to motivate someone to want to ask for your portfolio. Your education and work experiences are very important, but ultimately it's the live you, your work and presentation, which makes one want to hire you.

:: Solution ::
Typographic. Clear Hierarchy. Use formatting to help you out. Capitalize and use boldface, italics or underlining to help organize the information.

Designer Research
Who are your design heros (living), whos work do you look at and say wow? That you want to work for, what to talk to, want to hang out with. This list will evolve with time. Start it now and keep it updated. Suggest to use Google Sheets for this info.

Identify 20 designers / design firms you would like to work for/with/talk to. 5 can be from the Kansas City area. The other 15 can be from anywhere in the world (they do have to be alive)

-- the name of the Person/Name of their firm
-- city they are currently located
-- link to website, instagram and/or LinkedIn profile.
-- contact information (email or @)
-- what project (provide a link) made you feel like you want to work with them and why they have made it onto your list.

*You should not all have the same people and firms. If it looks like you all just shared a file I will not count this as complete.

Resume Content: use this page as a template and type up all of your content for your resume.
Print out your resume content: not formated just all one size. One typeface.

Type Studies: What typeface are you?
Try your name in at least 25 different ways (fonts, styles, case all caps, all lower, title...)
Use 12 or 14 point type for your name.
And do you want a sub-title such as Designer, Designer and Illustrator...

Read Claire’s tips  *So, when you find something you like dive deep, find the designer, see where they worked, then dive a little deeper and see their full job history! If you are fond of the work they do, you probably will be fond of the work from the place they work at, and possibly even their past employers.

Start to find resources to find designers here is one place to start…

Resum
é Exploration 15 (resume examples : do not go to online sources)
Hopefully you can choose your type styles: how to create the 3-5 levels of hierarchy from your studies that were due today. They were supposed to help you. Create 15 different layouts for your resumes. Think how can you organize it into try each of these layouts. Include some dummy info to fill out your resumes (as if you are a senior) 1 column, 2, or 3 columns. You can use the same fonts or you can try a couple different ones. Try studies with your monongram, try it without... you do not have to use it -- but you should try a few with it even if you think you won't.

Print out all 15 full size and in color
