Have it ready and send it as soon as you finish with an interview. It can be a letter using your resume format, a postcard, note card or a leave behind with a note. Something formal that says thank you and remember ME. (even if you after the interview you don't think that firm is for you – send a thank you and follow up. The design community if very small and maybe they are friends with a firm that is right for you.)

T I P S::
Create something that relates to your system, reminds the person who you are. You can create a series of postcards to send after the interview and months after to remind the person that you are still available.
