_ crit posters

HOMEWORK
Develop: 3 different storyboards
illustrating your concept and how it can look. Teach how to tell your font apart from another, what are the characteristics? Consider comparison/ contrast, diagramatically, your conceptionally... last years class had a different project scope but here are examples.

Use illustrator, 11 x 17 with at least 12 frames. Each frame should be 275pt wide x 200 pts tall. (click here to download template)

Content: name of the font, classification, characteristics (visually/verbally), at the end of the flash needs to be a frame(s) with your name, fall 2009, typography 01, wertzberger

put storyboards on the server.
_ put 1 pdf with your 3 storyboards on the server before class begins. (BEFORE).
_ Print them out black and white on 11 x 17. the storyboards should be tight ideas, done in illustrator - you can do them by hand but then you must translate your ideas into illustrator.

HOMEWORK
*11:30 section meet at 11:30 on monday not at 2:30 (the 11:30 class will not come to next monday at 2:30). If anyone from the 2:30 section want to come at 11:30 feel free, then you don't have to come to the 2:30 class.

Bring your computers if you have them.

_ Storyboard: Taking what you now know about flash. Refine final storyboards and add transitions (more frames to and written clues). save as a pdf and put on the server before class begins. yourname_storyboard_v2.pdf).

_ Music: begin to find sounds/music you would like to use in the final animation.

_ Animation: create a new animation (a new one) to practice what we did in class, again. Complete an animation that does at least the following... You could use one frame from your storyboard to animate or create a new one. This is a very fast project you must spend the time now in the beginning learning these things in flash.

1) make something move onto the stage
2) make something fad on or off the stage
3) make something grow or shrink
4) make a button
5) make your movie stop

SAVE and keep your flash file and each as a .swf.

save
yourname_tweenname.swf place files on the server before class begins.
*** MAKE SURE you don't every throw your fla file away! you need to have both types of files at all times: fla is your flash document. the swf is the = of a pdf (but you can never open it)

Process grade: for this project is based on what you hand in and its percieved effort.

Open template.html. Make a folder called Flash_09. inside that folder save the template as index. html. Make another folder in side the Flash_09 folder called images (all lowercase). Copy all your .swf files into that images folder. Open your index.html and begin to personalize it. Make sure it is legible: color is readable. This page will be posted on the class web site for the world to see. Make sure all your written text makes sense.

You will use this personal web page as your process book it is due at the end of the project. Those of you that know HTML feel free to make your own webpage. Use the template for content.

Trouble Shooting: working in class.

HOMEWORK
then create a refined version with sound
yourname_r2.swf

Music Looping Follow these steps you must start it and stop it to make it work.
(if you can't get it we can fix it in class)

TO START MUSIC
1) when you drag sound onto the timeline you can control if it will loop, repeat, stream, start or stop by using the properties box usually at the bottom of the window (same window you would use for motion tween, etc.) it should be the box labeled sync and in that box there will be an option to change the sound to event, start, stop or stream
2) if you want it to stop/start at a certain point in the movie you will need to select the start option
3) this will tell the sound to start at a certain point but will also allow you to stop it at a certain point but you have to tell it when to stop otherwise it will just continually play
4) position the sound at the intervals where it should start and stop (adjust the length of the sound clip)

TO STOP MUSIC
5) to get it to stop, you need to drag the same sound onto the same layer as the first one
6) you should only need one keyframe for this clip (shorten it to one keyframe) and place that keyframe at the interval where you want your music to stop
7) then in the properties box you need to select stop (in the sync box) and make sure you have only that one keyframe selected!
8) this should change the look of the keyframe (it will look kinda like a padlock)

process is a large part of your grade so make sure you save all your process, don't save OVER your file. Always save as a different version.

we will look at everyones swf files monday you MUST have your file on the sever before 2:20 or it is LATE and your process grade will suffer.
